The FAA has withdrawn a the published NPRM that proposed to
revise the system of ratings and require repair stations to establish a quality program. The withdrawal is “because we have determined that it does not adequately address the current repair station environment, and because of the significant issues commenters raised”. (see withdrawal notice)
At the same time there is growing momentum internationally for the establishment of Safety Management Systems (SMS) with ICAO urging all members to regulate the requirement of SMS.
I would like your thoughts on QC/SMS for your maintenance operation and what Regulation(s), if anything, you think should be added to repair stations.
