My dad worked for Hughes Aircraft. It was with great pride a number of years later when we toured the Spruce Goose together that he pointed out items he had built or repaired on this unbelievable aircraft. He shared a "I learned from that" mishap about the H-1 Racer. He was in the cockpit changing some instruments. Two other mechanics were removing the skin from the aft fuselage and were just down to the support stringers when helper stepped up on the wing to pass dad some parts. The weight of the helper on the wing caused the un-skinned rear fuselage stringers to bend and buckled the aircraft in half! Oops!
