Biweekly FAA Aviation News update
"Fastest Man Alive" Featured at Golden West Fly-In
General Charles "Chuck" Yeager will make a special presentation at this year's Golden West Regional Fly-In & Airshow at Marysville Yuba County Airport (MYV) in California. The first man to break the sound barrier, Yeager will share some of his extraordinary experiences and how the lessons he learned apply to today's flying environment. His safety talk is scheduled for Friday, June 12, at 7:00 pm following a dinner held at 5:30 pm at the Red Carpet Aviation Hangar. WINGS-registered attendees will receive credit for this event. The fly-in activities at MYV run from June 12 to June 14. Be sure to stop by the FAASTeam booth for the latest information on faasafety.gov and WINGS registration. See What's Playing at FAA Production Studios
Nothing good to watch on the tube? Head over to www.faaproductionstudios.com and catch a movie — it just might sharpen your flying skills as well. By clicking on the Videos on Demand (VOD) section, you'll see a whole menu of safety seminars, film clips, and interviews all relating to aviation safety. Didn't make it out to Sun 'n Fun this year? No problem. Many of the seminars and interviews filmed at the NationalResourceCenter in Lakeland, FL, will be broadcast live and then archived in the VOD section. New segments include the AMT Awards Program presented by FAASTeam Assistant Outreach Manager Bryan Neville and FAA Aviation News Editor Susan Parson delivering "Cloudy Skies, Clear Judgment" on aviation weather. More clips and interviews will be added shortly, so stay tuned!
ADs - Keeping Unsafe Conditions at Bay
Any car owner knows how recalls and defect notices are designed to keep drivers safe from a potentially dangerous condition. Similarly, the FAA works hard to correct unsafe conditions in aircraft by issuing Airworthiness Directives (AD). Once the FAA learns of an unsafe condition, an extensive evaluation is performed, including a detailed risk assessment. If an AD is issued, it will pinpoint the nature of the unsafe condition, provide the corrective action necessary, and set out a specific time frame for completing the repair. To learn more about ADs and how they may affect your next flight, see Tausif Butt and David Hirt's article, "The ABCs of ADs" in the May/June 2009 issue of FAA Aviation News.
