Avoid Cranking Woes with Correct Starter/Generator Wiring
500, 525, 525A, 525B, 550, S550, 560 and 560XL,

It is important to install starter/generator lug wires correctly to avoid cranking problems during engine starts. For correct installation,
the large lug wires must contact the terminal block first, then the smaller lug wires added, followed by washers and nuts. This ensures the large lug wires have the least amount of resistance for current flow.

Starter/generator wiring incorporates large and small lug wires. The negative E- terminal has one large and two small lug wires. A third small wire lug may be part of the installation if a filter is part of the circuit. The positive B+ terminal has one large and one small lug wire if a filter is installed.

Technicians can also refer to Chapter 80, in the applicable maintenance manual, for starter/generator wiring installation procedures.
